They are not only true historical sagas, but they also serve as warning signs for any society that has begun to decay morally and spiritually. In this study, we will delve into the lives of such prophets as Elijah and Elisha, Jeremiah, attacks on the nation of Israel from within and without, wicked monarchs such as Ahab and Jezebel, youngsters being anointed king, mighty kings such as Hezekiah and the Babylonian uprising that led to the collapse of Jerusalem and Judah. All these events took place between 931 and 587 B.C. Exodus: The Great Escape (Exodus) - 12 weeks // Over 65 years ago, 6 million Jews were killed; it is a story of genocide, a saga that began almost 3500 years earlier in ancient Egypt. In the royal throne room of Pharaoh Seti I, a major law was enacted: "Every Jewish male baby born shall be taken to the Nile River and there thrown into the waters to drown." We read of hatred against the Jews in the very first chapter of Exodus. In this marvelous book we will consider four main themes: 1. The Life of Moses, 2. The Nation of Israel, 3. The Tabernacle in the Wilderness, and 4. God Himself. The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat (The book of Judges) - 12 weeks // When the great Israeli General Joshua died around 1400 B.C., his passing ushered in nearly four centuries of horror on the people of Israel. One can only guess what would have happened to the Jews had not God chosen fourteen men and women to lead their nation in their darkest hour. Those chosen were known as "Judges." Among them were such famous names as Gideon, Samson, Deborah, Ehud and others. They will all "come alive" to you in this incredible book of Judges. This is an exploration into the Jews of the Old Testament that you will never forget. The Old Testament for Dummies (overview of the OT) - 6 weeks // I believe you will be a better Bible student because of your investment of time. And one thing is sure, the New Testament will be much better “grounded” in your mind because of the Old Testament foundations we learn together here. In these six weeks, you and I will travel from the creative words of the Master Designer, “Let there be light!” to His last words to mankind before the 400 year interval between the Testaments. In our journey we will encounter God’s greatest and Earth’s worst. We will see the formation of the solid foundation upon which God’s New Covenant (Testament) was formed when “in the fullness of time,” He would send His Son. The New Testament for Dummies (overview of the NT) - 10 weeks // First come the four Gospels (or more properly, the four records of the one and only Gospel) which narrates Jesus’ ministry, death and resurrection. These are followed by the Acts of the Apostles, which takes up the Gospel story with Jesus’ resurrection and shows how, over the next 30 years, Christianity spread along the road from Jerusalem to Rome. This book was originally written as the continuation of one of the four Gospels - Luke’s. These five books, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Acts constitute the narrative section of the New Testament. The next 21 documents take the form of letters written to communities or individuals. Of these 13 bear the name of Paul as writer, two the name of Peter, one of James, one of Jude. The others are anonymous. The last book of the New Testament bears the name of “Revelation.” Do you have anything you'd like to share with us regarding Wednesday Night Bible Study?
